But the weather cleared up, the fields drained, and the tournament started and continued without a hitch on day two. In the Elite 8, both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments ended with New South Wales versus Queensland showdowns: NSW Mavericks vs Cowboys in the Men’s, and NSW Scorpions vs Broncos in the Women’s. In the Men’s, the Cowboys, made it a threepeat, beating the Mavericks 7-6 in a four-a-side drop-off. The Men’s Player of the Series went to NSW Mavericks’ player Dylan Thompson. In the Women’s, the NSW women were victorious. Back- to-back winners, the NSW Scorpions, beat the Broncos 4-3 in another drop-off. Yet another team altogether, the NSW Rebels, produced the Women’s Player of the Series, Ash Quinlan. In the Mixed Opens, the Sydney Rebels narrowly dodged a drop-off by scoring a try against the Sharks within the last minute, to win 5-4. Congratulations to the Sydney Scorpions, club champions, for taking home the Golden Boot. It was also exciting to have Japan play in the Men’s T-League, coached by Steve Roberts. It was announced at the event that the National Touch League will remain in Coffs from 2019 to 2022. 18 | Keeping In Touch 2018 02 9592 1611 Level 1, 33-35 Sydney Street, Marr email: info@sheeth.com.au
