NSWCHS VICTORY NSWCHS defeated QSST 7-6 in a thrilling climax to the 18’s Girls tournament at Touch Football Australia’s National Youth Championship. NSWCHS saved the biggest scalp for last, defeating a QSST team that had not lost a match at the National Youth Competition over the past two years. But NSWCHS always had belief that they could be beaten and they put the pressure on to rattle QSST into silly mistakes. NSWCHS took advantage of these errors, but it was never going to be easy as QSST mounted a spirited comeback to try and steal victory. In the end, it was a Tarryn Aiken touchdown double that proved the difference, with the NSWCHS star helping her side cling to their lead in the dying minutes. NSWCHS’ lead was 7-6 with just two and a half minutes to play and QSST threw everything at the girls from New South Wales to try and keep their two-year undefeated streak alive. But NSWCHS’ defence held firm, repelling a late Queensland raid to earn a deserved victory – and sparking raucous celebrations on the field and in the stands. Earlier in the match-up it was QSST who opened the scoring before both teams traded touchdowns. It was a mini breakaway by NSWCHS in the last four minutes of the first that set them up for victory. Two touchdowns in two minutes was all it took, giving NSWCHS a lead into half-time and all the momentum heading into the second half. It was a gap they were able to maintain in the second half by showing great composure and determination, securing a huge win against the juggernauts of youth Touch Football. QSST’s dreams of winning back-to-back titles were dashed by an impressive NSWCHS side that went through the whole competition undefeated.
